About Lake Towada
Lake Towada is a caldera lake that straddles Aomori and Akita Prefectures. The beautiful blue surface of the lake and the surrounding rich natural scenery make it an attractive tourist destination. The lake was formed by volcanic activity about 200,000 years ago, and has undergone several eruptions since then to its present form. On clear days, the surface of Lake Towada glows a deep blue, a color known as “Towada blue” that attracts many tourists.
