About Matsuyamajo(Castle)
Matsuyama Castle is a historical castle located in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, and is one of the most famous castles in Shikoku. The castle tower commands a panoramic view of the Matsuyama cityscape. Built in the early Edo period, the castle still retains much of its original appearance. Matsuyama Castle is one of the "12 original castles" and its magnificent wooden keep is extremely valuable as castle architecture.
Matsuyama Castle's appeal lies in its overwhelming scale and magnificent stonewalls. The castle is surrounded by solid stone walls, and the "dragon's back" stone walls, with their unique curves, are particularly impressive. Climbing up to the castle tower, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of Matsuyama City and the Seto Inland Sea, especially on a clear day.
Inside the castle, you can learn more about the history of Matsuyama Castle and the background of its construction through the exhibits of period armory and other materials. In particular, the steep stairs and narrow passages inside the castle are a must-see for history buffs, as they give visitors a sense of the castle's defensive structure in the Warring States period. The view from the castle tower is also attractive in that you can enjoy the scenery of each of the four seasons. In spring, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and the entire castle is tinged with pink, making for a spectacular sight. In autumn, the autumn leaves are beautiful, and in winter, the castle is covered with snow, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
Furthermore, Matsuyama Castle is accessible by ropeway or lift, making sightseeing very convenient. This allows visitors to reach the top of the castle with ease, making it a particularly family- and senior-friendly tourist destination. The "Matsuyama Castle Ninomaru Historic Garden" is also spread out at the foot of the castle, where visitors can enjoy a stroll.
Matsuyama Castle is a tourist attraction that combines historical value and beautiful natural scenery, bringing new discoveries with each visit. For history buffs and nature lovers, it is a must-see when visiting Shikoku.
