Maruoka Castle, located in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, is a famous historical castle with the oldest castle tower in Japan, built in 1576, and is one of the few surviving castle towers that retain their appearance from the Warring States Period. The castle tower is one of the oldest of the 12 existing castle towers, and its simple and powerful wooden architecture attracts visitors.
