Kyotoshi Zoo

About Kyotoshi Zoo

The Kyoto Zoo, located in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, is the second oldest zoo in Japan and was opened in 1903. The zoo's vast grounds are home to 550 animals of approximately 140 species, providing visitors with a rich natural environment and opportunities to interact with the animals.

First of all, the greatest feature of the Kyoto Zoo is the diversity and ingenuity of its animal exhibits. The zoo features exhibits that recreate the animals' habitats as closely as possible, allowing visitors to observe the animals in their natural habitat up close. Particularly popular animals include African elephants, lions, giraffes, and gorillas, and these large animals are well worth seeing in the spacious exhibition area.

The Kyoto Zoo also has a number of areas that emphasize interaction with the animals, such as the "Fureai Hiroba" (petting zoo) and "Small Zoo. Here", visitors can directly interact with small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, and goats, which are especially popular with children. By interacting with animals up close, visitors can deepen their understanding and love of animals.

Furthermore, the Kyoto Zoo also focuses on educational activities. Exhibits and workshops are regularly held to teach visitors about animal ecology and conservation, and the importance of environmental protection. In particular, visitors can enjoy exhibits and videos about various animals at the "Animal Study Hall" while learning about them.

The charm of the Kyoto Zoo also lies in its scenery, which changes with the seasons. In spring, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and in fall, the autumn leaves are beautifully decorated. The rich natural environment of the zoo allows visitors to enjoy not only the animals, but also the seasonal plants, making new discoveries each time they visit.

The park also has a cafe and restaurant where visitors can spend a relaxing time while watching the animals. Families, couples, and friends can enjoy visiting the zoo all day long, as there are a variety of facilities to enjoy.

The Kyoto Zoo is an attractive tourist spot for its rich animal exhibits, hands-on experiences, educational activities, and beautiful natural environment. When you visit Kyoto, be sure to stop by the Kyoto City Zoo and have a great time with the animals.
