About Kinkakuji(Temple)

Kinkakuji Temple, officially known as Rokuonji Temple, is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Japan, located in Kita-ku, Kyoto. Its beautiful architecture, gardens, and historical background attract many visitors.

The most distinctive feature of Kinkakuji is its beautifully gilded Shariden, a hall of Shinto shrines and Shinto shrines. This building was built in 1397 as a retreat for Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the third shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate. The second and third floors are covered with gold leaf, and the sight of its brilliance reflected on the surface of the pond makes a powerful impression on visitors. Especially on a clear day, the contrast between the blue sky and the pond is beautiful, making Kinkakuji a popular photo spot.

The garden is another major attraction of Kinkakuji. Centered around Kyokko Pond, a garden with a circular path around the pond, visitors can enjoy the scenery of each of the four seasons. Visitors can enjoy different beauties throughout the year: cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snowy landscapes in winter. While strolling in the garden, you can view Kinkakuji from various angles and experience the beauty of a Japanese garden in harmony with nature.

Furthermore, there are many attractions at Kinkakuji Temple. Dotted throughout the temple grounds are a tea house where Yoshimitsu is said to have enjoyed the tea ceremony, an old pine tree called "Rikusyu-no-matsu" and a stone pagoda with Buddhist significance. By visiting these points of interest, visitors can experience history and culture.

Kinkakuji Temple is also very interesting for its historical background. The Golden Pavilion has been rebuilt after overcoming many difficulties, including the Onin War, the turmoil of the Warring States Period, and the arson incident in 1950, and each time the temple has been rebuilt, it has become deeply etched in the hearts of the Japanese people. By looking at a structure with such a history, one can gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and society in the past.

Kinkakuji Temple is an attractive sightseeing spot for its beautiful architecture with its shining gold leaf, its gardens with its seasonal scenery, and its rich historical background. When visiting Kyoto, be sure to visit Kinkakuji Temple and enjoy its magnificent beauty and history.
