About Matsumotojo(Castle)

Matsumoto Castle, located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, is one of Japan's representative castles and has the oldest existing five-story, six-story castle tower in Japan. It is also called "Karasujo" (meaning "crow castle") because of its beautiful black and white contrast, and its unique appearance attracts the attention of visitors. The castle was built between 1593 and 1594 at the end of the Warring States Period, and has undergone several restorations since then to its current appearance.

The charm of Matsumoto Castle lies not only in its magnificent castle tower, but also in the beautiful gardens and moats that surround it. The entire castle is designated as a National Important Cultural Property, and the castle keep in particular can be toured inside, where historic wooden construction techniques and armory from the Warring States period are on display. The interior of the castle has many steep stairs, and visitors can feel the life and tactics of the samurai of the time as they climb them.

Matsumoto Castle is also known for its beautiful seasonal harmony with nature. In spring, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and the view of the castle keep and moat in the background is spectacular. In summer, the lush greenery and lotus flowers around the moat create a refreshing and cool atmosphere. In autumn, the leaves turn beautiful colors, and in winter, the snow-covered castle tower creates a fantastic scene.

In addition, Matsumoto Castle is the site of many cultural events. For example, in summer, the "Matsumoto Castle Night Special Open House" is held, allowing visitors to enjoy the illuminated castle at night. Traditional tea ceremony and music events are also held, providing visitors with opportunities to become familiar with Japanese culture.

Matsumoto City itself is also an attractive tourist destination, and after visiting Matsumoto Castle, visitors can enjoy nearby hot spring resorts, museums, and local products. With its beautiful scenery and rich historical and cultural background, Matsumoto Castle has become a popular destination for tourists from Japan and abroad. It is a special place that offers new discoveries and impressions each time you visit.
