About Gyokusendo Cave
Gyokusendo is a limestone cave located in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture, and is one of the largest tourist attractions on the main island of Okinawa. The 5-kilometer-long limestone cave attracts visitors with its mysterious scenery created by nature.
The most striking feature of Gyokusendo Cave is its spectacular scale and beautiful stalactites. The cave is dotted with countless stalactites, beautifully formed over a period of about 300,000 years. In particular, the area called "Stalactite Forest" is densely populated with stalactites of various sizes, and its fantastic scenery is breathtaking.
The sightseeing route stretches about 890 meters and offers a wealth of attractions. The "Golden Pillar" and the "Cathedral" areas are full of huge stalactites and vast spaces that astonish visitors. The lighting in these areas is ingenious, and the stalactites are beautifully illuminated, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
Another attraction of Gyokusendo is its natural environment. The temperature inside the cave is kept at about 21°C throughout the year, allowing visitors to forget about the summer heat and enjoy sightseeing in comfort. In addition, highly transparent underground water flows through the cave, and its purity enhances the beauty of the stalactites.
Furthermore, as part of "Okinawa World" Gyokusendo offers a variety of sightseeing experiences. Okinawa World includes facilities that allow visitors to fully enjoy Okinawan culture and nature, such as Ryukyumura, a recreation of a traditional Okinawan town, and Habu Hakubutsu Koen, where visitors can enjoy a show featuring hubs and mongooses. This allows visitors to enjoy the whole day in combination with sightseeing at Gyokusendo.
Gyokusendo is an attractive sightseeing spot for its spectacular natural beauty and mysterious scenery. Visitors can experience the wonders created by nature and get a taste of the beautiful scenery and culture of Okinawa. When visiting Okinawa, be sure to visit Gyokusendo and enjoy its charms to the fullest.
