About Himeyuri Tower

Himeyuri Pagoda, located in Itoman City, Okinawa, is a memorial to the Himeyuri Students who were killed in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II. It is an important memorial site that conveys the horrors of war to future generations and is visited by many tourists and students on school excursions.

The most significant feature of Himeyuri Pagoda is its historical significance. The Himeyuri Students were students of the Okinawa Normal School Girls' Club and Okinawa Prefectural First Higher Girls' School who were mobilized during the war and engaged in nursing and miscellaneous duties on the battlefield. However, many of the students lost their lives at the end of the Battle of Okinawa in June 1945. Himeyuri Pagoda was built to commemorate the victims and to remember the tragedy of the war.

The Himeyuri Peace Memorial Museum is located near the Himeyuri Pagoda. The museum has extensive exhibits detailing the lives of the students at the time and their wartime conditions, including photographs, artifacts, and video testimonies. This allows visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the tragedy of war and the importance of peace. A visit to the museum has great educational value and is a valuable opportunity to learn about the history of war, especially for the younger generation.

In addition, the Himeyuri Pagoda is surrounded by a tranquil natural environment where visitors can quietly pray and feel the preciousness of peace. A flower offering stand and a stone monument are located on the site, which is cherished as a place where visitors can pray for peace.

Furthermore, near Himeyuri Pagoda is the Okinawa Battle Site National Park. The park is dotted with many historic sites and memorials that bear the scars of the war and help visitors understand the full scope of the Battle of Okinawa. Visitors are encouraged to visit not only Himeyuri Pagoda, but also the surrounding battle sites for a deeper understanding of history.

Himeyuri Pagoda is a tourist attraction whose historical significance and message of peace are strongly felt. Visitors can reaffirm the importance of peace while bearing in mind the tragedy of war. When you visit Okinawa, please visit Himeyuri Pagoda and feel its profound history and lessons.
