About Kaiyukan

Kaiyukan is one of the world's largest aquariums, located in Minato-ku, Osaka, and attracts visitors with its grand scale and diverse exhibits. opened in 1990, the aquarium is characterized by its Pacific-themed exhibits, which allow visitors to experience the diversity and beauty of the global environment.

The most distinctive feature of Kaiyukan is its large exhibition tanks. The "Pacific Ocean" tank at the center of the aquarium is 9 meters high and has a capacity of 5,400 tons, where visitors can see giant whale sharks swimming with ease. A corridor is built around this tank, allowing visitors to observe the creatures in the tank from different angles on each floor. The same corridor format is also used to exhibit marine life from various regions of the Pacific Rim, such as the Tasman Sea and the Aleutian Islands.

KAIYUKAN also offers a wide variety of hands-on exhibits that visitors can interact with directly. At the "Fureai Lagoon" visitors can directly touch stingrays and sharks, a valuable experience for both children and adults. At the "Jellyfish Exhibit Corner" visitors can observe the fantastic appearance of jellyfish up close and personal, and are sure to be soothed by their beauty.

KAIYUKAN's exhibits are designed not only to allow visitors to see the creatures, but also to learn about their ecology and environment. Each exhibit area is equipped with detailed explanatory panels and videos, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the natural environment and its conservation. This makes the facility highly educational.

The museum also has a cafe and restaurant where visitors can take a rest and enjoy the beautiful ocean scenery. The gift store sells original goods exclusive to Kaiyukan, making it a great place to find souvenirs.

Furthermore, there are many sightseeing spots around Kaiyukan, such as "Tempozan Market Place" and "Ferris Wheel" making it an area where visitors can enjoy themselves all day long. This allows visitors not only to visit Kaiyukan, but also to have a fulfilling sightseeing experience in and around the area.
