About Mitsumine Shrine
Mitsumine Shrine in Saitama Prefecture is located in the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park and is a historic shrine known as one of the most powerful spots in the Kanto region. Located at the summit of Mount Mitsumine, approximately 1,100 meters above sea level, it is a sacred place with the fresh air of the mountains and a mysterious atmosphere. The shrine dates back to Japanese mythology and was built to worship two main deities, Izanagi and Izanami, and to pray for the peace of the nation and the happiness of people.
The charm of Mimine Shrine lies first of all in its majestic appearance and beautiful architecture. The shrine, located in the mountains, has long been a center of Shugendo (mountain asceticism) and has been worshipped as a sacred mountain. The shrine grounds are dotted with many pavilions and torii (shrine gates), and the main shrine in particular is a gorgeous structure with finely carved and decorated structures, giving it an overwhelming presence. The colorfully carved shrine pavilions, with their detailed craftsmanship, fascinate visitors with their beauty.
Because Mimine Shrine is located in a magnificent natural setting, the surrounding landscape is also spectacular and shows its beauty differently in each season. In spring, fresh greenery is beautiful, in summer, deep greenery covers the mountains, in fall, autumn leaves adorn the shrine grounds, and in winter, snowy landscapes create a mystical atmosphere. In particular, the autumn foliage season attracts many tourists, and the contrast between the red and yellow trees and the majestic shrine creates a spectacular view. If you visit early in the morning, the shrine can be shrouded in fog, creating a fantastic sight.
Mimine Shrine also has a particularly popular amulet called the “White Ki Mamori”. This amulet is said to bring strong blessings and attracts many visitors on the day of distribution. In the past, it was distributed only on the first day of each month, and became a topic of conversation due to its rarity and effectiveness. Although the current distribution schedule is subject to change depending on circumstances, many visitors come from far and wide for this amulet.
Furthermore, within the precincts of Mimine Shrine, there is a path up to the “Okumiya” (inner shrine), which is located near the top of the mountain. Along the way, visitors can refresh themselves physically and mentally as they climb the mountain, taking in the natural mountain scenery and the fresh, clean air. The view from the top of the mountain is also wonderful, offering a panoramic view of the Kanto Plain and the mountains of Chichibu, making it a truly spectacular spot.
There is also a large gate called Zuijinmon in the precincts of the shrine, which is known for its carving of a “wolf,” the guardian deity of Mimine Shrine. This wolf is believed to be the messenger of the gods of Mimine Shrine and has been a symbol of protection from evil and good luck since ancient times. Passing through the Zuijinmon Gate, you will feel as if you have entered a sacred world, and the solemnity of the shrine grounds beyond will captivate your heart.
All in all, Mimine Shrine is a special sightseeing spot that combines nature, history, and faith, attracting many visitors with its magnificent scenery, sacred atmosphere, and the beauty of its traditional architecture. It is a special place where visitors can quietly tour the shrine and feel its energy as a power spot and refresh their body and soul in the midst of nature.
