About Enryakuji(Temple)

Located on Mount Hiei in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, Enryaku-ji Temple is a sacred site of Japanese Buddhism and is widely known as the head temple of the Tendai Sect. Founded in 788 by the great Buddhist preacher Saicho, the temple is one of the birthplaces of Japanese Buddhism, where many monks have practiced and influenced the Buddhist world in Japan.
