About Nikko Edomura

Nikko Edo-mura (Edo Wonderland) is a theme park located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, and is a unique tourist attraction where visitors can experience life and culture of the Edo period. At this facility, visitors can stroll through a vast area that recreates the streets of the Edo period and experience in depth the history and culture of Japan at that time. The main attraction of this facility is that visitors can feel as if they have stepped back in time, as Edo period characters such as warriors, townspeople, ninja, and courtesans roam the streets on a daily basis.

The most distinctive feature of Nikko Edo-mura is its realistic recreation of the atmosphere of the Edo period. The plaza, shopping streets, samurai residences, and temples are faithfully reproduced, giving visitors the feeling of walking through the set of a period drama. In the streets, visitors can experience the real life and customs of the Edo period through interactions with staff members living in Edo period costumes. Visitors can also rent kimonos and samurai costumes and actually spend time in the Edo town, where they can take special commemorative photos.

In addition, visitors can enjoy a variety of shows and activities at Edo-mura. The ninja shows and sword play performances are especially popular, offering a glimpse into the world of bushido and ninja of the time through action-packed performances. In addition, there are plenty of hands-on activities for children and adults to enjoy, such as shuriken throwing and archery, so families and friends can have fun all day long.

The food is also focused on the atmosphere of the Edo period, with food stalls and teahouses where visitors can taste traditional dishes that were eaten by the common people of the time. Visitors can enjoy dishes that are reproductions of Edo period specialties and old-fashioned sweet dishes, offering the pleasure of experiencing a part of history through a meal. The park also offers demonstrations of traditional crafts by artisans, allowing visitors to see right in front of their eyes the handiwork of the Edo period, including woodworking, ceramics, and Japanese paper making.

Nikko Edo-mura also offers a wide range of hands-on programs for children. At the “Ninja School,” modeled after an Edo Period school, visitors can experience ninja training, making it a place where children can learn while having fun. Adults can also enjoy the educational element of the museum, with exhibits and explanations about the history and culture of the Edo period.

All in all, Nikko Edomura is a theme park where visitors can experience firsthand Japan in the Edo period, providing a special experience for those interested in history and culture.
